A gifting economy, also known as a gift culture, is a system of exchange where individuals give valuables without an explicit agreement for immediate or future rewards. The Kula trade was a key example of a gift-like economy. Marcel Mauss and Claude Lévi-Strauss have also contributed to the understanding of gifting economies. Gifting economies are systems of exchange where valuables are given without expectation of immediate rewards.
